 A new home for econ students @ SFSU Welcome to the new website for the Economics
Students Association (ESA)! As a growing student organization, our
primary aim is to bring economics students at San Francisco State
University together with faculty, employers, academic resources,
tutoring, and of course, eachother. We have added functionality to
this site in an effort to create a centralized hub of community and
resources for students studying economics at SFSU. We highly encourage
you to register a new account
(all are welcome), create a profile, and begin to explore some of the
various features of this site as well as participate in the forums and ESA meetings and events. Please visit our calendar
to see the most recent events and announcements. Registered users can

A Freakonomics Contest: The Coase Theorem Online

is up for offer at the end of this post. As such, it may actually be
worth slogging through the brief economics lesson that follows.
The Coase Theorem
is a somewhat rare species of beast: an economic theory that is both
completely counterintuitive and yet often right in practice. The idea
is named after Ronald Coase,
one of the University of Chicago’s many Nobel Laureate economists.
Nearing the age of 100, he may not hear quite as well as he used to,
but otherwise he is still going strong, sitting on the Board of
Directors of the Becker Center, giving lectures, writing academic articles, and attending the occasional seminar.)
